Family Fajita Night ♥

I've been playing catch-up of sorts since the weekend, what with being out of commission on Sunday and then Sydni coming in on Monday. I'm finally back in line with my own shadow, and took the opportunity tonight to make us our first official dinner all together in the new house.

Fajitas it was! It's been about a week [shame on me, I know] since I actually knuckled down and cooked something, so it was pretty refreshing to hear some sizzling and smell homecooked food.
start fresh!!
browning.... nom nom nom
And with a little patience and stirring.... ta... DA!
yummmmmm
Sydni of course got her own variation of Tex-Mex night, since she's vehemenently insisting that she doesn't like CHEESE [which is a load of hogwash...]. Whatever, tonight, she got a cheeeeese quesadilla, to which there was zero protest. Go figure.

We're here again, reeling from full bellies while Thumbelina shows us how to outsmart a toad.
sorry it's grainy!
took it in poor light & had to edit some in..
We are a blessed little bunch.
Gosh, I love them.

OUT!

I apparently have representatives of my company who strongly resemble Billy Ray Cyrus. We discovered this today at work:
we've got... celebrities.
Also, drumroooolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll...

Tonight we officially cleaned out the last bit of EVERYthing I owned that was inside the Eleanor house! I am no longer a resident of that cute little neighborhood [and yes, I will in fact miss it a bit]. Sydni and I met Rob there to move out the last few things.

Now we're home, and it looks like tonight is going to be one of those relaxing nights, complete with dinner in and some good old fashioned cuddling up to a Veggie Tales movie.

Life is good. Life. Is. GOOD.

Boyfriend of the Year

Okay, so I did not specify earlier this month [January 5th, to be exact] that Rob and I have been together officially now for a full year. It sounds so high-schoolesque to make a public declaration that way, but I'm all about giving thanks where it's due... and it.. is DUE.

It's never too late for a shoutout.
And today... it goes to the greatest man [second only to my own dad] in my life. Before this guy, I think I always pretended I could find a best friend and confidante in a significant other, but it never actually happened. Now that it has, I totally get why some people are so easily swooned into that hopeless romantic stuff. Hah.

Anyway, in the spirit of being thankful for Rob, I thought I'd share, in no particular order, 10 reasons why I count myself among the elite group of truly blessed.

1 | He just moved to Cincinnati, for me. I didn't have to pack my bags and trek across the country to follow some perhaps unrealistic or self-absorbed dream of his, and really, he didn't do that for me, either. My geographical position is dictated by my Sydni, and he made a choice to be here with us.

he's workin on rice skills!
2 | Tonight, he had dinner almost halfway completed by the time I walked in the door. We both know I usually take the reins for that, but I was pleasantly surprised by both his initiative and at how delicious it was for someone who claims he can't cook. Haha. ;) Don't worry, I'm not expecting this every night, but it was a big show of awesome on his part and hey, brownie points don't hurt ;)

3 | Before we started dating, and well into the first few months of it, I was a basket case of sorts. I was still reeling from some of the events that ended along with 2012, and needless to say, I was very reluctant to give an inch of leash to my innermost self, let alone wear my heart on my sleeve. He, in spite of my walls, was patient, understanding and above it all, accepting of me at even some of my finest moments. And by finest, I mean those days when I was crumpled in a heap of red, swollen eyes, messy hair and a tear-stained face.

love.love.
4 | We've been through a lot for just one year in. There have been a fair share of misunderstandings, irritating situations and forgiveness, on both of our parts, but we've managed to approach them with open ears and minds, and to express openly how we feel and how things are actually affecting us. Couples therapy, 101, I know.... but seriously, I've skipped this part in past relationships and I would not make that mistake again.

me for me, you for you.
thank you....
5 | Just this past Sunday, when I was at my wit's end from the migraine I had developed, he sat next to me as I fought through nausea and exhaustion all day. I'm not one to brag when I need attending to, but it happened.... :/ Haha. He made me soup, made a cold compress for me and was just... there when I needed him.
this is backdated...
6 | My daughter loves him. Sydni and Mr. Rob are like peas in a pod most of the time. When Mr. Rob is around, I'm pretty much sent to the back of the line. Haha. I'll say that it's because he has his own set of nieces, but for someone sans his own kiddos, he's extraordinarily patient, generous and protective of mine. On top of that, my family loves him. It's not easy to appease everyone in my family, but I haven't heard a single complaint yet. I have an outspoken family, so that... is pretty awesome.
my. favorites.
7 | He's got a beard. I love beards. Haha. However, it's not one of those I'm-a-trendy-but-helpless-hipster beards. It's a beard that translates into an actual ability to get work done. Nine times outta ten, this guy's gonna build it, fix it, move it or improve it without calling for help. He's not afraid of greasy hands or breaking a sweat. It's refreshing.. to have a handy guy around for those rare occasions when my own pint-sized braun can't handle it. I'm all about girl power, but I'm admittedly old-fashioned in that I find it attractive when a guy can handle his own in the arena of all things manly.
trimmed up, but still adorable (:
8 | He understands that I'm something of an anomoly when it comes to my status as a girl. He doesn't pamper me [the exception would fall under days like #5 up there...], buy me a bunch of flowery fluff I don't need or try to convince me to wear stupid crap like pigtails or glitter. Instead, he figured out quickly that my girlish obsessions come in the form of crafts off Pinterest, wearing heels to work [sometimes] and using shower soap that doesn't smell like a Grecian athlete. I was raised and still am a tomboy at heart, and he not only embraces that, but encourages me to stay that way. He doesn't mind me for who I already am, and he's never tried to change me to fit what he thought I should be. We're equals in this. And that.. is awesome.
this. this is wha the gets to deal with.. haha.. ;)

9 | He's a guy with toys. I've never been much of a big ticket item collector, but I know how hard he's worked for the things he has, so I appreciate everything that's currently parked in the garage, driveway... and street. Haha. Harley, boat, 4-wheeler and lifted truck comprise the list of ways we'll have some fun once this weather gets over itself..... (:

10 | He loves me.
It's more about the small things than the big showy stuff for me, and so far, I have to say he's done an excellent job of taking the time to make this work. We're both back in the same city now, which means that the 400 miles between us no longer exist. My best friend is here with me and I'm not complaining one bit about starting off 2014 like this.
Add caption
Thank you, thank you, thank you Rob, for reminding me that it's okay to trust someone, and for showing me that giving my all can in fact be worth it.

Happy Tuesday, to you and yours!

Monday: Before & After

I've so far refrained from the infamous dashboard pictures that plague newsfeeds everywhere each time the temperatures hit high or low spikes. Today however, I just couldn't help it, as I realized that the longer I stayed out there, the colder it got.
yeah... it's cold.
From what I hear, it's supposed to hit a high today of something boisterous, like... 4? FOUR DEGREES. The midwest is having some serious identity issues this week.

On that note, I'm going to give a naggy PSA for all of you pet-owners out there...

It is ... COLD outside. Don't leave your dogs chained up in this crap outside. It's not safe, and you know it. There's NO excuse to leave our pets outside in this kind of weather. If you think there is a good excuse, then find someone who actually CARES for animals and give yours a better home. That, or you go spend the night outside with your animal and see how much fun it is. Negative something degrees overnights? BRING YOUR ANIMALS INSIDE. (:

We were fortunate enough to work indoors today, and when the day had passed and it was time to head out, I headed to Milford to get Sydni, and we were both greeted with this beautiful picture on our way home:
how great is our God?! ♥
In other good news, my headache and pinching sensation in my neck have significantly subsided. I am thankful for that, but beyond that, that I have a body that is still resilient and can recover itself. I am healthy. AMEN!

And also on that note, I can now officially say that we.. are ALL... in the same house together!!!! Sydni, Rob, myself & the pups - we're all here and we are having a blast. This is gonna be a good week! (:

Ouch. Ouch.. Ouuuuch...

I'm pretty sure I pinched a nerve yesterday while helping Rob shove the Harley off the truck. It is either that, an unsavory sleeping position last night, or my body exacting revenge on me for something I didn't realize I did. Either way, the bulk of today was spent in excruciating pain from some truly enraged little muscle group in my neck and shoulder.

If you know anything about me, you know that I'm that person [yes, I know.... ] who refuses even a tylenol unless I'm legitimately inches from insanity. Other than those few big-ticket medical instances [i.e., childbirth & collarbone surgery], I'm not a big medicine person. Call me crazy, but I just don't.

Until today.
yeah.. it happened.
^ I know.. I'm ashamed. I have in fact become weak to myself, but .. in my defense, I spent nearly four hours in a nauseated crouch, parked on the ledge of my bathtub either willing back or ceding to fits of dizzied vomiting spells. It's a very strange sensation to be vomiting but feel no pain in your stomach. I'm pretty sure the pulsing stabs in my neck and head were enough to compensate, but still. Weird experience that I'd like to not repeat anytime soon.

That was my Sunday.
I really hope tomorrow gives me something different. Let me just end this here, as I sip back on the soup that Rob made me. He deserves a load of credit today for dealing with me and catering to my self-pitying state of blah that I've been all day. He's awesome like that.

[BIG] Unpacking!

I've said it before and I'll probably continue saying it until I actually start doing it:

I need to follow weather forecasts.
Today we woke up to nearly 6", if not more, of snow covering everything around our house. Neither Rob nor I had anticipated such heavy snowfall overnight. We emerged from the house to find his poor Harley, still strapped up in the back of his truck, covered top to bottom in a blanket of fluffy snow. Poor Harley. :(
hello, powder!
It's days like this that I sometimes wonder why I don't live on the top of a mountain with my snowboard and personal ski-lift. Oh, wait, that's right, I'm not a bajillionaire. Well, maybe one day. (:

Our mission - well, Rob's mission rather - was to find a viable spot to park and unload the Harley. The parameters consisted of a bank or wall about level with the truck, not sloping too far uphill [or downhill] and no drop off on the other side.

Easy enough, right?

Well..... by the sheer grace of God, we eventually drove around in enough circles to earn the pot-o'-gold, aka a bank between parking lots of a nearby church and apartment complex. It looked to be the perfect launch spot for the bike.

I ... wish I could've taken pictures of us shoving his 800+ lb bike from the bed of his truck, across loading tracks and onto a snow-covered landing. Had I tried, though, I'm sure one of us would be in a cast of some sort. That was no easy feat.

Fast forward to Rob not dropping the bike on the mile-or-so ride back to the house, and we're all home, safe, with Harley cozied up in the garage next to the 4-wheeler.

All in a day's work, that's for sure. Now, we relax. This weather is junk for driving, so it looks like we're staying in tonight. I am.. just fine with that. (:

He. Is. HEEEERE!

Holy bajeepers... it is finally FRIDAY! [Halleluuuuujah!]

Work today was a pure testament that Fridays are a great place to interrupt the week before it gets itself into any more trouble. There are some circumstances out of our hands that needed attention, and today, in a matter of speaking, was D-Day for those things. The good news is, it's over and done with now.

I took advantage of a small window of time to run up to Kenwood before heading back to the house. Rob was en route here from Illinois for most of the day.... which means...

That's right, Rob is OFFICIALLY HERE!!!!

I am one truly, truly happy girl tonight. Today was a bit rough on both of us, but he is here. It's official. Rob is a Cincinnatian!

..... And now, the final unpacking continues!

We're home.

#TBT | Video Stuff | S&S Pibbles

It's Thursday.
In the world of all things social media and hashtags, it's #THROWBACKTHURSDAY, aka #TBT. In honor of such, here's a dedication to my mom, who saved this gloriously vintage picture of us from my babyhood. This is proof that babies can make anything look halfway cute, including pale yellow pj's. Pale yellow. We match, mom. I love it. Haha. ;) ♥♥♥
#tbt with mom! ♥
On a random note, here is an interesting video I found online; it's photoshop in motion, and I find it intriguing! I have no idea what the lyrics translate to, but it's neat to watch, anyway.

Speaking of videos, I captured a couple quirky moments from the pups tonight.
First, it was playtime with the floppy-eared beauty herself, Miss Sasha:

And then, it was apparently mandatory bathtime:

Poor Stella has turtle-like abilities when it comes to landing upside-down. She's short and stocky [short girl probs, yyyaknow...], so in some instances, flailing and wriggling does nothing to upright a turned tank. In the event there's a Sasha dog in your face holding you down to give you a bath, well... it's best to just let her finish. Hahah. Poor.. poor stocky Stella Bella. ♥

I skipped the gym tonight. Shhhh. I'm freakin' SORE from head to toe, and I haven't taken a day off yet this week, so ... uhhh.... yeah. I'll go tomorrow. Promise.

Right now, I'm going.... to bed.

Lettuce Learn .... & Love!

Woops.
In my quest to continue eating like a rabbit while at work, I've made it a habit now to pick up a new salad mix each week. I've been pretty good about it, and thought I had this simple thing checked off my list for this week, too. Haha.

Welp, folks, here is what happens when you leave salad mix [sans dressing, mind you] in your car overnight and the temperature drops down to -5°F:
gaaahhhhhh.... no. no good.
I checked over this melted mess of a salad that I purchased yesterday, and quickly realized there was no salvaging, unless I was down for some soggy, slightly icy but certainly saturated spinach and greens. Thanks, but no thanks.

*Sigh. Idiot.
Fortunately, Cincinnati has no shortage of groceries, so the first few minutes of the lunch break meant getting a replacement.
all right. let's try this again....
Setting the two cartons beside each other zapped up any remnants of doubt I may've had on the original salad...

nice work, cori. womp womp womp...
Moral of the story: Don't accidentally leave your salad in your car overnight when the temperatures drop below freezing. You won't want to eat it in the morning. Or ever. Say no... to soggy, browning greens, and yes to the cool, crispy stuff.
yummmmm (:
^ And yes... say yes to rabbit food (:
Just kidding. It's delicious if you ask me, and definitely fits in the regiment of things I should be eating while sitting around at a desk for most of my day.

The workout today was one of those grueling days, primarily because my legs are still in protest of any added range of motion. We finally managed to loosen up some and get some work done before I practically crawled out of there. #WHOOPED.

And then home..
And then dinner..
And then caving to my inner helpless-romantic and watching The Vow [or could it be because Rachel McAdams is the perfect portrait of the classic-but-angsty woman?!]
rachel mcadams [#wcw - sure, why not?!]
The dogs were happy to curl up with me and watch this with me; there was a lot of estrogen in the house tonight.. haha. Stella especially, who is usually my stoic, loner pup, seemed unusually clingy and wanted no more than a couple of inches between us for most of the evening. I obliged, naturally, and Sasha managed to wriggle her way into the mix before too long.
couldn't help it. sometimes i can't handle her.. haha ;)
^ She cracked me up. My Stella, the regal beagle [#butnotreally] of the two, literally hugged me for the entire movie. Yes, I was the little spoon to my dog. I captured this selfie of the moment, and quickly realized there was no resisting the Step Brothers pairing. ;)

Speaking of pibbles, Rob was with Kyle tonight and sent me pictures of his new bully, [appropriately-named] Blue. And Blue... is... beautiful!
hi, pretty booooy!!! [blue, that is. blue. sorry, kyle.. haha]
Whew. This day is gonna end early. Tomorrow's Thursday, which means it's almost Friday, which means.... a whole bunch of stuff.

Goodnight, from us!
xoxo! love, pitties & me!
Stay warm, friends!

Snow. Snow Everywhere ❄❆

One of these days, I'll start paying more attention to the weather forecasts.
no, i was not prepared for this.
I stepped out back to let the dogs out and found my neighbor calf-deep in the snow in his driveway, clearing his car. Apparently I wasn't the only one caught off-guard by the white mess. I was a little upset that it all looked so powdery, and well... fun .. and instead of playing in it, we'd all be heading to work. Schools, I assumed by the trails of kids I saw toting sleds down sidewalks as I was driving in, are closed today.

it's so pretty!
The commute to work was slow but steady; thankfully Nancy pardoned us all to arrive later due to the road conditions, and as much as we just inched along, I'm certain that extra hour or so made a huge difference. I have to admit that although the roads looked like junk, it was otherwise a pretty drive. This, once again, is the midwest. This is what winters in Ohio were like from my childhood. (:
snowy roads & snow-covered trees
And then there was work... which was mildly productive in spite of the weather. Nancy treated us to lunch, so naturally there was no protesting a baked potato in the middle of the day..

guilty eats.. and it's only tuesday... haha
^ No worries, though. I made it to the gym after work and in my own pained silence, trodded away at burning off whatever I could for the day. It was leg day, so of course my lower extremeties at this point feel more like noodles than limbs, but hey..... worth it ;)

Dinner post-workout was well worth it.
ooommmm nom nom nom (:
And then, as I was checking over everything for the evening at the new digs, I peeked inside the mailbox to find that Rob had beat me to the punch in having something delivered to the house! Sneaky, that one... Apparently he ordered facemasks. I couldn't decipher a company name from the shipping address, but it doesn't really matter; they're pretty nifty.
+ jacket + helmet = alllll set!
I told him I was wearing this thing to work. In the minute or so that it took me to sport one and snap a picture, I have to admit it got a bit toasty. Oh, the stuff available to us.. hah.

Anyway, I can feel the soreness encasing my legs the more I sit here, so it's time for a goodnight stretch session and some sleep.

*Crossing FINGERS for no. more. snow tonight! ❄❆

And Then, It Was EMPTY!

I've been so focused on arranging and preparing the new house, that I've neglected any specific updates on the old digs. Welllll...
then & now..
cleaaaaaaaaan & clear!
The main room at my old house feels so much bigger without anything in it, which I realize is generally the case with any room. I don't care though; I finally cleared out the last photo frame nail from the wall and have officially cleared out all signs of inhabitance from the back half of the old house. Save for our temporary sleep set up, "WE GONE!" [yiiiiieee!]

And, on an entirely unrelated note, I'm also declaring publicly today my affection and affinity for continued healthy eating. This little shoutout is really more for myself than any audience, but a little public posting never hurts when I'm trying to keep myself accountable..

greek yogurt + honey + blueberries
who says office life has to be all junk food!?
... I'm bent, folks, on a healthy 2014.

Right now, I'm more excited to [almost] be down to one house, instead of split between two. Home stretch!!!

Little Sunday Things

First things first:
sonrise!
Sydni and I started Sunday off right with another well-delivered message from the pastoral staff at SonRise. This whole feeling-like-everything-is-applicable-to-my-life thing is a both refreshing and intimidating. It's as if the material being shared is realistic for the every day paths we follow, yet gritty enough to force some solid introspection on motives, habits, beliefs and behavior. Top it off with the side of grace with which it's given, and the perfect morning message is created. No complaints here (:

Today was sunny enough to keep us out of the house for a little while; Sydni reminded me that I needed to get "new oil" for the car, so we did that. The staff at Valvoline and I spent twenty minutes laughing at Sydni's collection of goofy faces as we sat in the bay while the work was being completed...
silly little spirit. i love that about her.
Oil change complete, we debated playing in what light snow was left around the yard, but opted instead to continue plugging away at straightening up the house. At this point, we've made major headway, but without staple living room furniture [aka, the couch, end tables, tv, tv stand, etc.], it reminds me a lot of a dinner plate with all the food shoved out to the edges.
..... stiiiiiiillllll workin' (:
I'm content though, with the progress. We've sorted through a lot of stuff in the past week, and the majority of it all has found its proper home. It's not bad for just us girls here ;)

We successfully enjoyed another weekend, and now Sydni The Emperor [not to be confused with an Empress, because apparently that's NOT A REAL THING, MOMMY....] and I, along with the pups Castle Horses are relaxing a little before we have to face that 5am Monday wake-up call again. ;)
the emperor and her steeds.. haha
"add caption."
- no. ♥
Let's see if we can escape Monday. Ya think so?

...... yeah, neither do I.

Smileys Saturdays

I had three very contagious little grins following me around all day long:
sydni. sasha. stella.
happy girls!
It hasn't actually snowed hard in a couple of days, but it hasn't melted away yet, either. I was hoping for some time outside with Sydni, but after judging the sheer covering left on the yard and the soft ground beneath it, we decided it would be worth our time and may just make more of a mess than prove to be much fun.
sitting snow.
So, before we finally got out to run some other errands, I took to putting away a few miscellaneous things at the new house, and Sydni entertained herself and the dogs with a cuddle party, complete with every stuffed animal we've transferred so far from house to house. I realized after a few moments of complete silence that I should probably check to see what mischief was being attempted, but was instead met with this adorable scene:

"mommy, sasha and me and stella and all my animals and this baby in
the pink carrier thingy, we are having a cuddle party. and this blanket,
too. and this bag of all my little thingies. we're cuddling." - sydni
Hahaha. Adore.
It's getting pretty chilly outside, so we're cozying up and keeping warm for the evening. These days with no agenda are some of my favorites (:

Tomorrow it's church, followed by another day of whatever we please.
.... Weekends are pretty cool. ♥

WE. FINISHED. ONE!!!!

*SQUEAAAAAAAL!

I am proud to say that Sydni and I managed to finally complete the first room of the new house. It just happens to be her room, primarily because all of her stuff was compact and easily moveable around the house. Whatever the case may be, her room is DONE and ready for her to move in!
she's proud of it, too! (;
I can't really justify why this felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders tonight, other than that, in the spirit of moving, all of this grunt work has finally materialized into a finished product. Woo! The next step in the Sydni's bedroom process is updating her bedding, but we have plenty of time for that.

After we configured and re-configured all the shelves and furniture to our liking, I celebrated this small victory by collapsing momentarily on the bed. Syd on the other hand wanted to showcase some of her newest dance moves. I gladly obliged to be the audience.

We'll turn this house into a home yet..... just wait. Haha. Rob's lucky they forgot the steel support beams for the other bed frame, or I'd be sharing whatever debacle I could create in reconstructing that thing, too. In time..... in time.. haha.

For now, we're outta here. We're having a slumber party tonight since we have NO agenda tomorrow and are both planning to take advantage of sleeping in!

Happy Weekend!

No Coffee After Noon

Don't judge me.
Today was a coffe day.
Like...... noon coffee. Yeah, I had my chance to snatch it up in the morning, but I didn't really feel like it until noon.
whatev.
Anyone who knows me [namely myself, in this case] should know... very well .. that coffee is like sheer adrenaline to me these days, since I've actively cut back on daily consumption. Drinking COFFEE... at NOON.... probably would've been ill-advised by the 4:30pm me. Duh.

Basically, it meant that I was in no mood to do any more moving of any more things to any more places by the time work ended and I was en route back to the new digs. This, again, was a selective choice that I made out of my obsession to reach a desired state of semi-organization. I pushed myself into a lot of frustration this evening, wasn't very kind to Rob [who isn't doing anything wrong...] and left the house knowing I hadn't accomplished what I wanted to for whatever reason lay between me and what I deemed to be progress.

And then I saw this, posted who-knows-where, and promptly made it the background on my phone:
truth. rinse & repeat!
^ This really is not that serious, Cori. It's just moving, and I have plenty of time to get everything where it needs to be. Also, you look and sound like an idiot getting aggravated over what really.. is nothing.

That being said, I've apologized to Rob for being such a downer and noted to myself that there will be a 10am-or-sooner cutoff to consuming coffee at work. Real. Talk.

So yeah. We'll try again, tomorrow.

Wednesday: Guess What? Moving....

Here is a single-item list of ways I probably would not have chosen to start off my Wednesday:
good move, cori.
^ That is what happens when you drive 8 miles over the speed limit in a school zone in Norwood. I'm not blaming anyone here; I was driving, I had a choice, I managed to keep strong my once-every-3-years speeding ticket streak, etc..... Luckily for us all, there wasn't a daggone kid in sight. I'm not condoning wreckless driving here; don't think I am. I'm just naturally aggravated by it, and kiiiiinda wanna kick myself for not remembering the cars I see pulled over likely for the same reason nearly every other day on my morning commute. Dumb, Cori... dumb.

Anyway, with that expensive start to the morning, I was hoping the day would improve. It did, because honestly improvement is a choice of reaction to circumstance.. or something like that.. and without too much fuss the day put its fangs away.

..... Well I take that back.
.. winter?
^ Before Wicked Wednesday finally gave way, there was a 6-mile stretch of blizzard-like conditions that materialized out of nowhere on the highway. This obviously caught us all off guard, even though every licensed driver in the midwest should be used to roulette weather by now. Whatever. We made it out to the new house safely for another night of organizing. I've tasked this out now, and made it a goal to complete certain areas, one step at a time. Otherwise, I'm all over the house meddling with one thing in each room, only to have half a dozen things started and nothing finished.
tonight's goals: assemble the craft desk & book case
Mission completed!

And now, we rest. The weather forecast doesn't even know it's own shadow at this point, so we may wake up to eight feet of snow or a flood tomorrow. The best thing we can do now is sleep away the hours until we get to find out.

ZzZz!
