It's Monday, AGAIN.

There's no denying it; this was definitely a Monday.
It rained a lot today; Elisa and I were the only two in the office today, so we decided to beat the weather and cheer ourselves up with lunch.
perfect. peeeer.....feeeect.
^ The one thing that comes to mind every single time I eat Chipotle, is how not-big-of-a-deal it is to my friends back in Illinois. I was fortunate enough to live near the [only] mall in the area when I lived there, which happened to sit not far from a Chipotle. It was nice to have something that reminded me of home, but I was shocked and appalled to find that next to nobody had ever even had it, and those who had, weren't nearly as fanatic about it as they should've been. Hah. Dramatic, I know. Seriously though, who can't appreciate beans, rice, chicken and guac?! Thankfully, simple economics dictates that I have to pay for this kinda stuff, which is great, because if it were free, I'd be there daily and probably weigh a thousand pounds [#chipotlechipsareworsethanacrackaddiction]. How's that for theatrics? I ♥ Chipotle (:

And that was the highlight of an otherwise dreary 8-to-5, topped off then by one of those bare, hash-it-out-in-love-and-then-hug-it-out conversations that's been desperately needed for the past couple of days. It's amazing what face-to-face interaction can do to erase any threat of miscommunication. Sydni didn't have gymnastics tonight, so it was home to hang with our little family, which is where we are now. It's still raining. The toddler in me wants to go swimming in the backyard, but I digress.. hah.

Here's to a sunnier week! [Cross fingers!]

We Are CALLED To Bless

I've been in prayer over the past few weeks on the decision I made to take on a missions trip. I would love to say that I've been given a clear, concise answer as to what it is I'll be doing, exactly where I'll be doing it and exactly when that will happen. Unfortunately, I've not been given any answers, but I'm fine with that, because I know that I'll be placed where I'm supposed to be, at the exact moment that I need to be at that place, for a reason I might not recognize until it is literally right in front of me. That is the beauty of faith.

With everything that's been scheduled for us over the past couple of weeks, it felt like much longer than two Sundays that I'd missed when I walked into SonRise today. Rob was still sick, and opted to stay back, so I ventured out on my own.

I'm glad I did. I walked into church and was immediately greeted by a foyer filled with people, balloons, posterboards and popcorn. It looked a lot like an expo of some sort, because it was an expo - a Ministry Expo.
sonrise ministry expo!
This was perfect.
Since I've moved back to Ohio, I have yet to plant my feet so firmly in a church that I am immersed yet in the ministry projects. That's not a good thing. I've still been experimenting here and there, visiting churches that I've not yet seen, trying to keep an open heart to where I should settle and plant my roots. Honestly, I've never homed myself [in my adult life] in anything other than a Baptist church, so naturally, exploring in and of itself has been something of a new experience as it is.

I have prayed over this often in the last year, especially after visiting a few of the area's Baptist churches and not feeling that connection that isn't decided my me, but rather by the overall atmosphere. I am sure they are wonderful places, but there's been something telling me that I need to explore what has been under my nose this entire time.

And that is SonRise. Yes, it's a community church; some call that non-denominational. I say that I'm less concerned about choosing a specific Christian division than I am about finding a place that coincides doctrinally with what I believe. I'm pretty simple. Love God, Love People. I borrowed that from my church in Illinois [Shout out, Towerview], but it's true and it's easy. Love God, Love People.

I see that at SonRise. I see a thirst to educate the kids and youth on reaching out in their worlds with the values that may, especially in today's society, defy the evolving social standards of their peer groups. I see the adults being guided, not forced, to recognize areas in which they can develop, correct or improve themselves in practical ways to have the impact we're designed to have.

Today, I took copious notes as I followed along with Pastor Jeff, on the calling we all have to use what we're given to bless others. I explored the Ministry Expo set up in the foyer, both before and after the service, and was a little taken back by just how obvious the opportunities to minister locally are for me. That, and how many!
just some of the ministry opportunities.. right.. under my nose.
Call me cliché if you want, but I am a firm believer that I've been the happiest when I'm doing something for the benefit of someone else, and can see the amount of joy that brings them. It didn't always, and still doesn't "come naturally" to me, as some people would suggest of those who love helping other people. No, I'm human. There are days when I want to be selfish, and every so often yes, I indulge those urges and internalize my energy instead of apply that to helping someone else. I'm not gonna pretend that I'm always helpy helperton. I'm human with human nature, and I am proof that dying daily to myself is a PROCESS.

Anyway, back on track, I discovered today that the seemingly murky responses I've felt thus far regarding an all-out missions trip may be due to the fact that I've yet to plant any of my missions efforts here, locally. It only make sense. The more I thought about it today, the more sense it made.I need to be here before I can be anywhere else. It all starts internally, and emanates from there.

I took lots of notes. I always try to capture any sermon with my own notes, so that I can refer back later and recall what stood out the most. Today, it wasn't one singular thing that made a mark, but just the concept of deflecting the focus off of myself and into the efforts of bettering someone else's life, if even for just a few minutes at a time.

must... remember!
And I remembered. I can write. That means that I know how to formulate encouragement to someone who might need it. I can cook. There are people who don't have the time, resources or ability to eat a good meal, let alone create one. I can sing. Music is therapeutic; there's no mood to which some sort of music cannot be paired. I love all those things, and I'm capable of much more that I don't always see. As it stands right now, very few people stand to benefit from any of my talents, mediocre as they may be. I can't share them if I don't apply them.

SO... Here's where I re-direct my prayers of mission. If across the world is where I'm meant to be, then great, that's where I'll be. As of now though, I feel like I need to just open myself to what is here, now. It's a matter of plugging myself into a homefront before I can expect to gain traction anywhere else. So, if you wouldn't mind, keep me in mind when you pray for local missions. This is about as local as it gets for me, but I'm starting to believe this is where I'm meant to be, for now. (:

*****
Speaking of blessings, I ran into an old friend a few weekends back when Jesse was in town visiting us. It's been nearly seven years since Justin and I played soccer together, but it seemed only fitting that since that's where we met, that's where we would start hanging out again, reconnecting after so long. So for the first time in over a year, I laced up the boots and hit the field with an indoor team, serving as a starter since their other girl didn't show up.
a familiar, endearing sight!
Tonight reminded me how greatly different soccer is than just a standard butt-whooping at a gym. It doesn't matter how much you train at the gym, soccer will find a way to target and destroy a completely different set of muscle groups. Haha. I held my own, but I'm already sore and looking forward to getting back into this on a regular basis. Yay, CINCINNATI and your indoor soccer networks!!

Back at home after the game, Rob and I decided that all of nothing sounded that great for dinner, so we pigged out like a couple of rabbits on what actually is probably healthier than most things we could've chosen to eat...
yeeeup. healthy hogs. haha..
Poor Rob is juuuuuust about back to 100%, although I think our attempt to find Anchorman 2 funny at all may have just caused a setback. Haha. Seriously, NOT... funny :( Oh well.

Tomorrow we're back to the work week; I have a feeling this week is going to be far less hectic than last week [at least I'm hoping for it, anyway].

See ya then!

The Doeblerts: Stock the Bar Train Jamboree!

*backdated! ;)

I've seriously been waiting all week for this.
By mid-morning, Rob and I were in the car, en route to Connersville, IN to rendezvous with Catie, Andy & Co. for their Stock the Bar Train Jamboree [aka, joint wedding shower]. Let me tell you, this was a genius idea, and an all-around awesome time for everyone.

I'll spare the chatter & get straight to the pictures. I borrowed a couple from Ryan & Reena, but since I forgot to bring the D90, I had to count on Ryan's Canon to capture a lot of the day (:

We boarded the train and got caught up with some familiar faces we hadn't seen in a while...
jen! a little filipino love for the trip (:
me, catie & trisha: "roommates," 6 years later!

the beardless guy i brought to the party ;) ♥♥♥♥
This was a legit train ride, complete with a conductor, tickets & all:
(:
and yes, we made him yell, "aaaaaaaaaall aboooooard!"
Once we started moving, The Tye Dyes [aka, Catie & her band] provided some of the soundtrack for the trip out to Laurel. There is nothing quite like an old fashioned train ride with awesome people and live bluegrass music. I could do this every Saturday.

LOVED IT!

yeah, catie!!
Of course, there's nothing like an unfortunate fender bender to add some awe and quick prayer to the first train ride we've taken in a long time. It didn't appear that anyone had been hurt, but we did spend the next 10 minutes after this all speculating on how that may've happened..
ouch :(
The train plugged along for about 45 minutes before we reached Laurel. There, we were met with some Indiana hospitality for lunch.
not nearly as shanty as it might look!
you had us at fried food
^ Lunch = buffet. Of fried food. Let's be honest, nobody was watching their diets today, and a good thing, too, because the food was pretty good. I'm pretty sure we were all back for seconds, if that says anything. (:

After lunch, we all took to exploring a bit outside the restaurant. The train was awaiting us just a few meters away on the tracks; there will be lots of pictures surfacing soon of us all on the train as it stood waiting.
yes, that's rob. lol ♥♥♥

We boarded back on the train for the trip home, and watched as Catie & Andy tore into all the gifts that were brought to actually stock the bar. I think they did pretty good, haha..
stocking the bar for these two!

because why not?
We arrived back in Connersville, and bid temporary farewells to everyone. Back in Cincinnati, I managed to squeeze in a quick catnap before I was up and heading right back out the door to Rhinegeist for the girls-only part of Catie's bachelorette party.

yessss!
traditional fobby picture from your brown girls ;) haha
I even got a random text from Trish, asking if I was getting into anything tonight. I told her to come and join us, so she did, and it was awesome having her there to spend the evening with us! We left Rhinegeist and bounced around some to good old OTR. Our final landing spot to finish the evening was The Drinkery, and we all left with huge smiles knowing we'd done our due duties as friends to celebrate Catie's approaching nuptials.
trish came to play!
adore her!!
Catie, I LOVE you, and I am SO excited to see you in a month, walking down to tie the knot with Andy! Thank you, THANK YOU for including me on your celebration. LOVE YOU!!!

Fireball Friday

^ Elisa & I decided earlier this week that today would be Fireball Friday. Unfortunately that didn't actually happen while we were at work, but we did get our traditional Friday lunch, even in the absence of the rest of our office staff. Chris came down from Eastgate for our weekly meeting, which was short, sweet and to the point. After he left, we had nearly an hour of real lunch time left to burn, so we mongered down on some Piada and rendered ourselves useless for about 45 minutes.

And nobody was mad about it (:
elisa, cozied up

across from each other - in nap mode...
Yeah. Basically.
I got home to find that Rob wasn't feeling well, at all, either. It looks like it's his turn to feel well out of sorts, not that I would ever wish that on him. It's early in the evening and he's pretty much down for the count.

Yeeeesh.
Anyway, TOMORROW = Catie & Andy's Stock the Bar Train Jamboree! I can't wait!

Callin' this one an early night (:

OMBRÉ!

Ombré hair is a thing these days. I've never been one to jump on the trend wagon, but for months now, I've told myself that it's time for an overhaul on this mop I call hair.

I needed it cut.
And, since I'm already there, I figured I would get something snazzy added on to it.

However, the last time I entrusted my mane to the hands of a salon professional, I dontated 17 inches of my hair [voluntarily] and came out with a shoulder length Asian school girl hairdo [the not voluntary part]. No good. NO. GOOD.

So it was with extreme trepidation that I reached out to Samantha, who is married to one of my first and greatest friends all the way back to my freshman year at college. I've seen her work multiple times on Facebook, and felt I could trust her.

So I went for it. Today was the day I sat at Salon Beck and had the best haircut experience I've ever had! (:

THANK YOU, SAMANTHA!!!!

Time for before & afters! (:

before & after
before & after
I owe all of this to Samantha.. thank you for doing such an amazing job!!!
love this gal!
I completely understand now how anyone's hair stylist can become a social outlet and sounding board, especially for those women [& men] who go on a regular basis. I will certainly be visiting again, but for the time being, I'm loving the new subtly-done hair & can't thank her enough (:

To celebrate overcoming my salon anxiety, Rob & I had a little impromptu date night.
mango tree
I love this guy. I'm home now and stuffed to the gills with sushi & fried rice, but just looking at that picture makes me a little hungry [again]. Haha. Weird, I know.

Anyway, we're home, we're cozying up for the night, and I'm a happy girl.
I've said it before & I'll say it again - life. is. GOOD!

Rain Rain GO... AWAY!

Rain. In Cincinnati.
rain in cincy!
Go. Away.

That's all.

Thanks, though, for the opportunity to make some chicken noodle soup for us and to cozy up on the couch to enjoy the thunderstorm. Oh, and we'll get a double header next week in volleyball. Woohoo!

Get it out of your system by this weekend, though, ok? (:

Redemption

I won't say I feel perfectly normal, but in comparison to yesterday, I'm not complaining on the stark contrast. I survived work with no major issues, only a slight headache, which is nothing now.

Luckily, it was another gorgeous day out; Rob and I took advantage of the mild weather and took off after work to run some errands and get ourselves lost for a bit on the bike.
harley sunsets ♥
Like I said, no complaints.

Here's to the rest of this week (:
