Happy Birthday, Catie! ♥

Tuesdays around here have earned the nickname Terrible Tuesdays: a pun off terrible TWO's, indicating that Tuesdays have the temperament, agitation and inconsolably fickle head of a human toddler on her worst day.

I wasn't alone on this sentiment today; Kristin and Clarissa had their fair share of the action today, and by the time 5:00 rolled around, I think we'd had our fill of Tuesday in general. SEE YA NEXT WEEK, BUSTER..... haha.

In other - and way cooler - news, today's Catie's birthday! I had several shots to choose from for the commemorative photo, but this one is so accurate to our friendship that I couldn't pass it by:
circa 2008
^ When you find someone with whom you can shamelessly don adult onesies [that just happened to also glow in the dark and have little grippers on the feet, don't hate..], then you know you've found one of the good ones, haha.. Also note that that picture was taken after work on a mid-week, and that we weren't under the influence of anything except spontaneity. These types of things happened more often than you'd think!

After work, I did a quick costume change at the office, and scooted out the door to soccer practice with Becky. She'd asked me to assist in coaching a squad of U10 and U11 girls on the east side, and I happily obliged that. It was a blast!
soccer practice time!
Not a bad ending to an otherwise tempestuous Tuesday; I'm pretty pleased with it all and feeling much better about approaching tomorrow ;).

Adios!

Friends On Tuesday

Nancy came back from Spain today! Welcome back from Spain, Nanc.. It's been a roooodeo here. So glad to have her back. That being said, it's been somewhat of a flurry of events from last week to now, and it doesn't look to be dissipating any time soon.. I have to admit, today was one of those days in which I left work feeling completely defeated, even in spite of leaving an hour early [to compensate for not taking a lunch]. Go figure.

I carried that irritating defeat home with me and channeled that into day TWO of INSANITY. In hindsight, it's probably a good thing I had some pent up emotion to use as fuel for that, because this thing's no joke, folks. Haha. I made it through day 2 though, and I'm still standing. I have high hopes :).

What I really didn't expect was be sought out in conversation by two different, unrelated girls I've known for years now, who've both been integral parts of my life at various stages, and both of whom I hold so dear still to my heart.

jen | circa 2008
Jen || Welp, it's been a long, winding, hill-infested road since I met her in in middle school. I was in 7th grade, she was in 6th, and we were quite the dramatically 1990's lookin' things.. I love everything about it. We've been through many of those angsty adolescent things that girls so typically go through feeling alone.. I was fortunate enough to see some of those things through with Jen, and her with me.. and from that stemmed a friendship that's lasted from then, until now, and I'm hoping for years to come. We've had roles in each others' weddings, shared in the joy and strains of new parenthood, but more importantly the transforming power of the GRACE of God that works so evidently in the real life struggles we seem to face individually but on parallel timing. Love. Her. to Pieces.

arley | circa 2010
Arley || There's something to be said about a girl who helps you survive parts of your high school career without feeling like you're completely lost. Not just that, but someone who looks out for you after that when it comes to certain things, places and people about which you might've forgotten from being away for so long. I know without doubt that if and when I make it back to the good old Vern that I can find Arley, her adorable kiddos, and the rest of our friends from over the years ready to catch up, hang out, and kick back. She's always been the level-headed one in the midst of sticky situations, and for that I am oh-so-stinkin'-grateful. Hah. It also goes without saying that I need to arrange a high priority to reflect making a trip home.. SOON. Thanks lady, for everything (:

Anyway, I am anticipating something of a grueling 8-5 throughout the rest of this week at least, but I am so thankful for the refreshing conversation I had tonight, and for the timing it so precisely carried. I needed to slow down for a moment, and just breathe. I even feel pretty amped for day 3 of INSANITY tomorrow. We'll see if that particular resolve lasts past noon tomorrow ;). Just kiddin'.

Okay, week. Bring your best....

Dinsdag!

^ Bet you thought that was some sort of funky proclamation, eh? Nope. Well, look it up, if you must, and you'll be faintly disappointed that I'm really just a little bored. That's my itty bitty tribute to my sister for the day. [If you don't get it, don't worry 'bout it ;).. ]

amelia

Anyhoot, happy birthday, Amelia Earhart! I hopped on Google this morning [I am slave to that thing] and borrowed this little tribute picture for her. I wonder.. just wonder.. if the day will come when the speculation will be forced to stop when someone discovers the proven remains of Miss Earhart and her plane. I'm sure it'll be one of those monumental moments in history that will be ironic in that she's probably nowhere near where we think she is now. Who knows. I'm no expert. :p

Anyway, I wanted to, on a more serious note, share something I found online and felt should be recognized. In the wake of the events from Friday in Colorado, someone compiled this. Just looking at it makes me so sad for the world in which we live, the people left behind to mourn the voids created by this one man, for James Holmes, and for the mass of lost people we so desperately seek to reach.

Without speculating, I can only say that I am at a complete loss of words for the pain, for the weight of missed moments and regret that inevitably weigh on the shoulders of the loved ones left behind - be they justified or not. My prayer for healing, endurance, but above all peace is just one of the millions being lifted up for these families, but it is there, and I mean every ounce of it from the bottom of my heart.

I believe in the sun | even when it's not shining. | I believe in love | even when I don't feel it. | And I believe in God | even when He is silent. || - BarlowGirl
Tragedy or no tragedy, it's never too late or too early to remind ourselves and the ones we love what love means. I have only had friends unfairly taken out of this world at what seemed like a premature time, but I take solace in knowing that it's not our time on which these things function, and within each painful moment there is a reason, a deeper meaning purposed to remind us of our fundamental purpose.

Things to think about.
I'm a bit scattered today. : /

I'll pick this back up tomorrow.

Tuesdays.

I’m still sick. [Lame].
But,
This fun little card came across my email today, and it can speak for both itself and for my day.

pretty much.
Good news though: Tomorrow night is Bible study, and Friday is small group!
