All Things Pre-Kindergarten.....

My daughter goes to kindergarten tomorrow.

TOMORROW.

I think I'm ok. Actually, yes, I know I am; what I think the issue is is my believing that she's old enough to be going. Elementary school is the easy part; I'm excited for her and can't wait to see her off on first day.

For today, that meant the big 5-year doctor visit, wellness check, etc.
This chick's a trooper.
hearing test
blood pressure
lots of waiting around ... ;)
And when it was all said & done:
"it's a school kid giraffe!" - syd
You're killin' me, mini.

Back at work, I made it a point to have an extra healthy day myself, which made me happy just based on the colors alone!
and yes, i'm apparently learning my containers today, too ;)
booowlllll...
After work, I found myself back in Milford at Sydni's school for the orientation night. We toted her school supplies and did everything from meeting her teacher, seeing her classroom and gathering all that first-timer parent info in preparation for her big day tomorrow.

Now it's only a matter of hours before we're up and at it to see her off on her first day.
Yay, kindergarten!

Don't Touch My Baby :-ϟ

You'll never catch me doting endlessly about myself or anything I've done... however if there is one thing I know for certain about good ole' me, it's that I am fiercely loyal to those I love. There's a lot I would do for a friend in need, and when it comes to my family, specifically Sydni, there is very little that I wouldn't do for her.

So today, as we headed in for a consultation over the small inguinial hernia she has, I was faced for the first time with a tangible sense of maternal instinct. I know, I knowwwww this is an outpatient surgery and it happens to kids all the time, and thisssss, and that.... yes, I know. That doesn't mean I want my monster to have to go through it.

In my head, this is what I felt like I probably looked like today.. or at least how I felt:
don't ........ touch.
Haha. Yeah, I'm a nerd, but Neytiri from Avatar, about to whoop someone if they take one more step in the direction of someone she's protecting... is the first thing that came to mind today. Go figure.

In reality, here's what it really looked like:
hahaha...
True story. The consultation today consisted of more time watching Sydni spin this chair, climb the table, pull that curtain out and dance around the room than it did visiting with the actual surgeon. AND.... this is an outpatient procedure, so whenever we schedule it will be her day in and out of the hospital. AND... it's Children's, so I'm really not worried. It's not like it's Mercy Fairfield.... ☹

So yeah, I need to relax.. I know. I can't help it though, yenno? That's my baby.. and as majestic as Neytiri is.. I really don't see the need to turn into a blue feline-human warrior out for revenge. I'm trying to keep my blood pressure down these days...

Anyhow, all other quips aside, I headed out after all of that to meet up with Kalyn, Keifer, Brittany & her boyfriend Joe, and Tim & Jess at Quaker Steak in Eastgate. It was a five minute stand there before we hauled off to Varsity in Anderson for dinner and a good series of catching-up stories before we all dispersed our separate ways and headed home.

That's now, and I'm spent.
My family comes in tomorrow.. I can't wait!

Time to catch some Z's.

o_O

"If it hadn't been for cotton crazy!-eyed Joe...."
So my poor husband managed to get a soccer ball drilled right into his eyeball at soccer practice, and consequently wound up at the optometrist for an examination. He came home today with one pupil dilated, which always looks silly up close. He also has a pair of those snazzy little film glasses that more resemble a slap-on bracelet than actual lenses. In an effort to savor the moment of wonky-eyed wonder:

Yeahh..... for any out there wondering, yes, he's fine now, but it was certainly a brief concern. [God is good, all the time, Amen?]

greek yogurt is greek yogurt...
Oh, and for the record, greek yogurt is making a comeback in my daily routine. Sadly though, I'm finding it exceedingly difficult to locate the Brown Cow brand I usually stock. I settled for Oikos [?], and I wasn't disappointed. As it turns out, they're pretty much the same across the board. So much for brand loyalty.

That being said, we'll keep the spirit of healthy living alive through food, and leave it at that for the day.

Cycle 3: Day 1

chicken caesar salad | day 1
Cycle 3 is here. Cycle 3 = Achieve Cycle. Supposedly I'm allowed to eat pasta now, though in exceptional moderation. I'm cool with that.
-------
Oookay. I need to get this off my chest. If you've been reading along for even one entry prior to this one, you know that for the last 8 days now, I've been at odds with some sinus/allergy/sinusitis/or something... issues. Last Thursday, it got to the point that I thought I might benefit from the second opinion of a licensed professional. This pretty much goes against my normal thought process, but this is the same girl who also took a Sudafed on Friday. I think I'm losing it.

Right. So long story short, I broke down and scheduled this doctor appointment and although I was feeling substantial improvement, thought I'd keep it and see if the doc had any insightful commentary or recommendation. I remember now why I try to avoid this route for anything short of having a baby or having a bone pieced back together. Today, I could've probably received the same diagnosis from my tax consultant, the mailman, maybe even my 1-year-old. After about 6 seconds of shining a light into the back of my mouth, she was confident to tell me I had some drainage.

.......yep. Drainage.
She wants me to believe that drainage has been the culprit to be held accountable for prolonged sinus pressure, headaches, total stuffiness, and migraines. I suppose it's possible...

z-pak | ugh...

My options: Either I do a Z-Pak, or take the route of a nasal steroid. Pretty stark ends of a broad potential spectrum, I thought, but I'm not the one getting paid buku bucks to rattle off medical advice. The most interesting part came when I told her about my recent commencement of Neti treatments. Her first reaction:

"Oh, that's great. If you're doing that, you probably don't even need a prescription or any OTC allergy medicine."

Oh. Well all right then. I'm confused. Are the Z-Pak, Alavert, nasal steroid, and Neti Pot all synonomous?
Whatev'. I'll try out the Z-Pak and hope it kicks this bug, for good.

Tomorrow's Wednesday. Woot Woot :)
