[Five.] Oh, My Poor Little Sicky

Cycle Two. Day Five.

I'd had everything mapped out today as far as taking lunch and preparing my mind to cook dinner.
6:45 AM rolled around; I was dressed and ready to wake up little boogie to get her ready.

My poor little sicky.

^ This is how we spent the majority of the day :(

We battled a fever, finicky appetite, and tossy-turny naps for the majority of the day. This is my first experience in motherhood calling off work to stay home with an ill baby.

The good news is:
I had the opportunity to spend nearly the entire day with her, as heartaching as it was looking into tired little eyes.

So as it pertains to the 17-Day thing, we did well today. There was no excuse not to.

Feel better, boogie.

[Four] : A Letter

Dear Tuesday,

Well hi there... You know you sure were pretty amped for being Monday's shadow. I had a few things I wanted to share with you.

First, no. I'm not going to go on a tirade about the death of Bin Laden. It's late in the game to start speculating on the whole thing, and quite frankly, there's more than enough coverages already. So yeah.

Secondly, you get the award for weekday of the wacky at work. It must be this perpetual soggy weather that's been melting the normal off these folks. The ones that weren't suffering from rainy day grouchiness simply wanted to call or show up in the form of a hot mess. Today you were in one of those moods, offering to send us that bucket of marbles that just make you wonder out loud, "hmmmm."

Oh yeah, and I ate more greek yogurt today. It's day 4 of cycle 2. I also ate another salad. And ran. Then I ate some chicken. And some veggies. You proud? I hope so. It took a lot - and I mean a lot to not stop at Chipotle and... eat.. it.... I didn't, I didn't! I'm sticking to this training, yessir, I am. I have no good reason not to; homemade food is the bomb.

Lastly, I've got to stop and just give the greatest praise I can muster to the awesome God I serve for supplying me with the support He has. There are a few specific individuals He's placed in my path at least three who have expressed support over just the past few days, especially in regards to the zealous ideas that came over me throughout the weekend:

One, my husband. My best friend, and the reason I believe in the power of a Christ-centered marriage. Joe, you are my partner, for as long as time is time. Thank You. One, at their request, I won't publicize: thank you. You are proof that the next generation of youth has a chance to embrace compassion for others. To the other, Mr. Sam Kelly, you took the time to counsel and advise me today, and for that I honestly am so thankful.

Tuesday, you silly thing....

You deserve a day off. Heck, take the next 6 off.
.... same time, same place, next week?

sweet.
 G'nite, Tues.

2. Two. Dos. Dalawa. [ And so forth ]

Day Two. Again. Cycle 2.

Remember this guy?:

[He's baaaaaaaaaaack] .. and still doesn't taste any better, but I must admit it's grown on me a little bit.

I'm paying due respects to this ever-present quintessential part of my daily eating habits.
Gotta say.... feelin' good! :)

Happy Birthday, Meagan!!

I'm adding this in homage to a diet plan again spoiled by one of the best excuses to spoil one's diet:
Hibachi.

Like I said before, I'm a sucker for rice and those un-aptly named chefs. (ours tonight was Justin).
I love it, love it, love it.

!! happy birthday !!

Back at ONE | [hello, cycle 2!]

Ahhhh..

Today starts Cycle TWO of this diet .. no no, training regimen I'm endeavoring to complete. Seventeen new days with some new food integrations. So far, so good with the first cycle. I've shed 12 lbs so far, which I'm not necessarily celebrating, because I'm fairly certain over half of that was excess water weight (lovely). No worries, though. I'm bound and determined to stick with this.

======================

Today also starts something a little more epic for me. I found out at the end of the week that the house in which Joe & I used to live, along with the rest of our neighborhood (Toney, AL), was flattened. That house had no basement, and I am fairly certain that our neighbors along that road also had neither basement nor storm cellar of any sort. I'm praying they reached safe shelter before the storms took their homes.

So, let me give you the quickest possible synopsis of how this far-fetched vision hatched:

tuscaloosa, al

At some point in the middle of a deep REM cycle last night, I found myself sitting in my living room watching the newsfeeds: image after image of debris-speckled housing developments, overturned cars, and people frozen in hopeless gaze at piled rubbish they once had called a safe place. An almost tangible sense of panic and empathy sprinted up my spine and I couldn't handle it any longer. I picked up my phone,  called the owner of Penske rental trucks (amazing whose numbers dream phones have, pre-progammed, ha). I told him I wanted a 26-foot truck to transport some daily necessities to Huntsville, AL. He said yes. I, along with a small army of my 'best friends' (people who, in real life, I've never met) picked up this truck. We loaded it with donated items at a pick-up spot in Cincinnati, then hit the open road to Louisville. We repeated mass pick-ups, accompanied by small speeches of gratitude in Louisville, KY, Bowling Green, KY and Nashville, TN. In Nashville, we'd somehow coordinated an appearance by a band resembling Casting Crowns (though not actually them), and their set was performed on top of the truck. The funds raised and the ministry set forth were overwhelming. We added the last of the donated goods to the truck and filled nearly every last inch with the hope that hundreds of people had funneled into four cities. We dropped everything off with volunteer mobile units at my old church (Wall Highway Baptist) in Huntsville, and, after watching the miracle of ministry outreach, headed back to Ohio.

 Sounds ridiculous, right?

Welp, sounds even nuttier that I'm attempting to bring the majority of this wacked-out dream to real-life fluition, but hey, I'm not really a conventional person, and as a believer in the healing potential with which God endows each of us, it'd be a waste to at least not try.

Declare my lunacy. I'm cool with that. :)

Sooooo.. when Monday hits, I'll be on the phone and engrossed in emails to see if and where this could materialize. If I can't jumpstart this effort, I will, if nothing else, join forces with a mobile volunteer unit that's already onsite aiding cleanup, recovery, and response efforts.

Please pray for the direction of this project.
I have no idea if and where this will lead, but I am confident that the God I serve already knows, and He'll have me on the right path if I just trust Him.

So yeah. How's that for a Saturday?

Checkpoint [17]

We maaaaade it :)

Cycle One
Day 17.
That's TODAY.
Not a bad way to end the week, and almost the month.

The new cycle starts tomorrow. It's the 'activate' phase [as opposed to the 'accelerate' theme of cycle 1].

I'm excited..
.. to start a new 17-day stretch
.. because this thing is working
.. because I've been relatively disciplined with it so far
.. also because it's Friday, it isn't raining, and I just ate all of those almonds I used to comprise the #17.
Good times. Good times.
