fab 5! | olympics 2012
Olympic coverage post #8953479257803478105734021...

Who cares, CONGRATULATIONS to the Fab Five!!

I'm such a junkie for gymnastics! I grew up on the stuff, from the time I was about 3 until I traded in my spandex for shin guards and went full time with soccer. It was a weighted decision, but my fond memories of spending hours at the gym, bending toes into perfect points and having blisters on the inside of bar grips will always stay. I love gymnastics, and I love watching the pros go at it the way it was meant to be done.

These 5 girls (Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, Kyla Ross & McKayla Maroney) did a stellar job holding their own in competition and keeping Russia at bay for the all-around team gold. There was mass amount of speculation from just about every website and news channel; word is that this calibur of performance hasn't been seen or achieved since the Magnificent Seven of 1996. [Pause - I just realized how the years are flying by; I remember very clearly those epic moments of Kerri Strug's vault injury, Domenique Moceanu's tenacious beam routine, and of course, Awesome Dawsome. I just realized I was only in sixth grade. Haha. Whoa.]

Speaking of gold medals for team USA, kudos to the swimmers, too! Jimmy & Mo came by tonight with a couch and a few tables they are going to store temporarily at our place, and once we settled for homing the couch in the living room due to its inability to fit through any of our doorways [long story....], we settled in to watch the finals of the men's 4x200m relay. We were talking tonight about how the records being set by Michael Phelps will not likely be broken for years to come, and that these historic moments are happening in our lifetime. Our kids won't know anything about this other than what they read in books or online. Crazy.

Gold Medal Mondays & Sushi in the Sun

Today  marked the first day of a work week sans bosses. By this point, they should be shmoozin' away in a couple of hammocks somewhere on a beach in Mexico. They work their tails off, so this is well-deserved. That means we'd better not hear a peep of a phone call from either one of them this week ;).

Anywho, the chatter over the weather for today and tomorrow has so far came to fluition. Today was gorgeous. I for one am completely content to hang on to blue skies and 70+ temperatures for as long as we can. I took advantage of this last hoorah and committed my lunch break to munching on some sushi at the park a few blocks from my work. It was the perfect experience: quiet, sunny, slight breeze, empty picnic pavilion. I caught up on a few Max Lucado excerpts and ate my sushi in my perfect little hour bubble that was my lunch break. I even managed to snag a few shots of the changing colors. I could've stayed there all day.

AAAAAAND, Joe texted me to let me know that he and the rest of the Air Force soccer boys beat the Navy today in the final tournament game and therefore will be taking home hard-earned gold [and by gold, I mean actual gold] medals. He sent me this picture as both proof and bragging right.

Sydni and I spent the evening putting finishing touches on a few surprises for Daddy. We won't post the pictures here just yet, because with any luck, we'll be exposed before he gets home to discover them on his own. Somehow, our house is now clean again, and appears to be organized ;).

♥ colors!
Mr. Dills comes home tomorrow!!!
