New Digs.. New Door??

I realized this morning that my office space has finally come together into a space that's going to feel like home. Good thing, too, since we have a boatload of stuff to do here in the next few weeks. I am excited. (:

happy braids!
I even managed to get my hair into a manageable and surprisingly in-tact braid while sitting at my desk, on the phone. Go figure. I thought for sure I'd have to take it out and start over, but this was one of those rare hair moments that I'll probably never again repeat on the first try, but realized it's perfect for work. Thought I'd share...

It's the random stuff like that that keeps me going sometimes through the days that otherwise get a little stuffy and more methodical than I feel like being at that very moment. Hey... we've got to entertain ourselves somehow, okay?

Work out of the way, I hopped in the car, Fairfax-bound to get the KEYS... to my new digs! (:

home!
Mission accomplished, and I got to see Trish and the kiddos for a quick minute before I made my way back to Milford and then down to Northside. Becky and I decided on Skyline for dinner, after much fickle consideration [nothing new there]. Good call.

On our way back, we were discussing my list of to-do's once I get fully planted into the new house this weekend. One of them is to fashion a table of some sort out of an old door. I've always wanted to do that, and I figure now would be a better time than any to take a dive and go for it. At the moment I mentioned it, we were on foot nearing Becky's apartment, and she nearly took off in a run towards the trash area for her building. Apparently, there was a stray door in there; she couldn't have been more excited.

Long story short:

dooooooooor (:
Yeah, I can dumpster dive [or in this case, pick] on a whim with my friends. Haha. Becky called Mike, who was there within minutes with his truck to haul this thing off and store in his basement until the weekend. It looks like I've got my work cut out for me on Pinterest or wherever that happens to be, until I find some sort of doable transformation for this.

TOMORROW = FRIDAY.
Hallelujah (:
See ya there...

Dumpster Diving In Northside!

Thursday!
I've given light detail of how this first week has gone at work. Today was another day of firsts for this office - we scheduled our very FIRST round of interviews for this office! [[I realize that sounds super nerdy, but whatever.. it's the small things!]]
first round for tomorrow! (:
I made a run out to Milford after work. I decided I wanted to get some pictures framed and displayed on my new desk, so my first order of real business was to get that done. I didn't take into account that printing off pictures I'd already Instagram'd would need to be printed as squares [why that didn't occur to me before, who knows...], but when it was all said and done, I was determined to make it work, and I think it turned out pretty good.
love him. love it.
Becky and I did dinner at Habaneros, which was delicious... I do love local places (: [[[try the bbq chicken quesadilla!!!]]]
yummmmmm (:
Lastly, and this was probably my favorite part of the entire day...
Dumpster Diving... In Northside... With Becky.
It doesn't get much better than that. Technically, I guess we weren't really diving, as there really wasn't any of that involved - it was more like us spotting a crate filled with random trash propped atop a row of trash cans outside an apartment. We took full advantage of it, braved the smell of garbage just long enough to transfer all of it into another trash can and make a dash for it with a new crate. It's a nice one, too, and in tact, which is rare whenever you're scavenging. We celebrate the small things. (:
one man's trash?.....
..... is probably going to end up outside our door. haha..
Haha. Yeah, it's posted outside my temporary abode right now, and that's probably where it's going to stay until the stale banana smell dissipates from it and Becky can recycle it into some sort of useful something-or-other.

It's late.... my words are starting to default to sound effects. *Yawn.

Tomorrow's FRIDAY!! [[yesssssss]]

Dumpster Diving with Diana

I have absolutely no problem openly discussing my indubitable obsession with thrift shopping. There's a certain subtle thrill that, though unspoken, is very alive whenever I acquire something fun for a fraction of what it would retail. In terms of consumerism, I pride myself on exercising discretionary spending without sacrificing in any one-or-the-other ultimatum. I am all about resale shops, yard sales, and hand-me-downs. When it boils down to it, really, I apparently am open to any form of transferring noteworthy items into my life.

Case & Point:

BEHOLD : The dumpster that resides in the corner of our parking lot at work. It's responsible for all discards from the 7-8 small businesses that share with us in our little plaza. I've made numerous trips across the lot to toss our trash and never stopped to think twice...

... until today.

My work day begins at 8am, so there I am getting settled in for the day when our co-owner breezes through the door telling me to grab my coat and follow. [Ooookay?] Well, as it turned out, Diana had taken our trash out and spotted a cabinet of some sort, disassembled and left for disposal. If you're wondering if we retrieved it, the answer is YES, OF COURSE WE DID.

I should start a bucket list. On that list I should scribe and check off :
√ Dumpster dive with employer

Fast forward to after we'd loaded this sucker, in pieces, into the back of my Murano and I ended up with it now sitting out, ready for me to attempt re-assembly. I have no screws or nails, and even less of an idea of what or how this thing goes together. This should be interesting. If all else fails, I'm scrapping parts and recycling them somehow. I'll keep you posted on my success [or potential lack thereof].

At any rate, I dedicate today to my boss, the wonderful up-and-coming dumpster diver. She thoroughly impressed me today with her instant initiative and quick response time in spotting and hauling out what we both hope to be a nicely-revived piece of furniture.

Welp, that's about all the excitement I could handle for one day. :)

Short work week, here we come!
