Oh Yenno, Brick Pavers.

A few days ago, my friend Trey posted that he had some brick pavers that needed to go.
Welp, a tiny portion of this came home with us today.
brick pavers
We had some minor kerfuffles with the trailor on the way back home, but all in all we have them, they're here, and as soon as I get the chance, they'll be lining the side of our driveway. Stay tuned.

Is it weird that this is really the only big thing I have to report today?
... We're old.

Haha. Happy Tuesday, blogbots!

Play With Play-Doh & Love Your Laundry

There's no baptism back into real life that's quite like a Monday. Seriously. We returned yesterday from our weekend camping/boating trip outing and basically crashed. That meant that the ruptured vessel of clothes, shoes, toys and other domestic innards that is our house would be sitting on my plate when I got home.

I nearly broke my neck dragging two full laundry baskets down the stairs with Sasha trying to wiggle down with me. I lost at least four socks on the trip there and wound up dumping half of one basket in the process of retrieving said socks. I finally hauled it all into the laundry room for sorting, and repeated the whole thing until I had about four full baskets lined up for washing.
In some cases, this is room to grumble. Tonight could've been one of those nights, but as I was sorting and filling the washer with the first load, it hit me. It was so subtle that I almost missed it, but a tiny thought dawned on me:

You're a blessed girl, Cori.
#realtalk
That itty bitty little inkling of a thought spidered out into a flood of reasons that started scrolling through my head like a reel of movie credits. I'm not the only person who suffers from the blight of first world problems, but tonight I had a beautiful little moment alone, in my basement, to absorb the truth behind not just this busy little Monday, but my life in general.

This is a lot of laundry.
... Which means that my family & I have clothes on our backs.Cooking dinner is gonna take a little while.
... Which means there is food to cook here, and that my family is actually here to enjoy it.The dishes are dirty, again...
... Which means that others have been here to eat and share that time with me.
There are toys everywhere in the living room.
... I have a healthy daughter who may still want for things she doesn't have,
but she'll never go without the things she needs.
My garage is a greasy, tool-cluttered space.
... Which means I have a man here who knows how to use his hands to fix
what's broken & improve what isn't.

The basement smells like dogs.
... We have two who are more loyal and loving than I could imagine.
The garage [sometimes] smells like dude (:
... Which means the dude who lives here is worth keeping around, is here more often than not,
and in turn values the idea of being present with his family.

My schedule is so busy.
... Which means I'm a functioning part of my own life and fractions of those around me.
My Bible is falling apart.
... Which means it's a working tool in our home.
There are things I didn't accomplish today.
... Which means I have a purpose, and a reason to face every day with a mission.

They were in no particular order, but those are just some of the things that made me pause from my human instinct to find all of those things [&more] as burdens, rather than the misleading appearances of the real blessings in my life.

This little lightbulb moment pacified my urging anxiety when I subdued the laundry and headed upstairs to start working on Mother's Day cards. I was met at the top of the stairs by Sydni and a bag of play-doh that had been given to her by the Easter Bunny.

Folks, spending time with your toddler is always more important than whatever you've got planned. She won't remember the birthday hat, cake and present we made out of play-doh tonight, but she'll remember that her mommy played with her, and even those short couple of hours are something that neither her nor I would ever get back if it hadn't happened.
crafty little miss... ♥
Plus, let's be honest: playing with play-doh is way more fun than making cards. We can do that tomorrow. (:
play-doh party!

My daughter didn't miss a beat of her decorating a purple and yellow play-doh cake to say,
"Mommy, thank you for playing with me."
Whoa.
Those 6 little words, delivered by no prompting from me, made me melt. We stopped everything and wrapped each other up in a bearhug for a few minutes. I have no idea if she'll remember saying that to me, but I will never forget it.

My little blended family and I ate, played and laughed together tonight. We're a frazzled bunch sometimes, but frankly, I wouldn't change a thing.

This is what life's all about, people.
Play-doh playbreaks and loving your laundry (:

What a life, I tell ya... what an unpredictable, impromptu, chaotically-fun, sometimes-smelly, laundry-filled, completely blessed life ♥.

Friends On The Water

We woke up this morning to that atmosphere you can only find when camping. The smell of dew from overnight was still hanging in the air when we crawled out of the tent, and the sun was peeking through between the trees. The campfire ashes were still smoldering, and the familiar feeling of being surrounded by mud and camping gear first thing in the morning set in immediately.

I LOVE it.

I also love being on a boat.
With Rob.
.. And our friends (:

This was day 2 of taking the boat out on the water; yesterday was her baptism to the 2014 season, and today we motored a course around the lake by ourselves for a couple hours before Kalyn, Brittany and Chad rolled in.

Here's the photographic story of that happening :P
my love (:
day 2!
sparkly water (:
floatin' away!
We decided to dock up for a minute to get our friends in on the action!

hi guys!!!
laid out with my best friend

love. love. looooove. these girls.
And what's a boating trip without doing yoga on the bow of the boat?
just a little yoga for the trip out
Oh, and the polar plunge, aka the cold water challenge... whatever you wanna call it. It might be warm out, but the water is still pretty.. freakin'... frigid.
trying to talk ourselves into it....
go!
.... coldcoldcoldcoldcold...
We talked Chad & Rob into doing it, as well...

I love these people...
loungin' out without a single thing on the agenda
besters.
It was finally time to tow in... we were all winding down and ready to eat.
headin' on home

i am one absolutely content girl (:

^ Yeah, lots of selfies on the boat today. None of us could help it; happy people, happy pictures!

Rob & I dropped the boat at the house, threw on some jeans and made a U-Turn back out of the neighborhood on the bike to meet the other three for dinner. Our destination: The Eagle in OTR. We hadn't yet been, but we'll be back!
sweet potato bake, chicken sandwiches, mac & cheese, spoonbread..
... nomsssss.
Whew. That's the way to finish a Sunday! We definitely got some sun out there this weekend, but it's nice to be home again with our pups for a the rest of the night. We're gonna crash here in a minute, I can tell.

I'll deal with Monday when it gets here... hah. G'Nite!

LET'S.. GO... BOATING! [&CAMPING, TOO!]

Before the weekend could really begin, I had to make a very rare pitstop back at work for an hour or so. It felt so weird being there on a Saturday, but I counted my blessings of not having a job that required me to report in every weekend.
saturdays at the office?
rare. :p
The short office visit was worth it; I got to run a couple of other errands while I was out, too, in preparation for our mini getaway out to East Fork.

I headed back to meet up with Rob; he'd spent the morning at his shop cleaning up the interior of the boat, and together, we tied up all the loose ends and headed East.
campsite - check!
Our first priority -  find a campsite. That was as easy as a quick tour through the grounds; we pitched our tent and turned right back around to hit the water. After all, that's the real reason we're here this weekend (:
hello, 2014!
it. begins. yiiieee!
She did it! Her [the boat] 2014 debut went as smoothly as we planned. For that we have Rob to thank: I don't know that I'll ever get over how thankful I am for a hands-on guy who can spend a couple hours in the guts of a boat and get the thing running like a champ on his own. I love this guy.

Today was a bit chillier than what we would've ideally wanted, but it didn't sway us off the water until the early evening rolled around. We squeezed in a mini hike before settling into the campsite for the evening..
into the sunset.. haha (:
i love. this man.
It was back to the campsite to start a fire and cook after that.
marinated skewers?
.... yes. yes, please.
nom nom nom nom....
The last item on the agenda for the evening: NOTHING.

We sat by the campfire and watched the sun disappear, followed by the brighter shades of the sky fading into one smooth black canvas. The stars were bright and the campfire was sparkly.
beautiful ending to an awesome, awesome day.
I count myself among the luckiest out there. Life gets so busy sometimes that we forget to pause and extract ourselves from the tornado of routine activity, even just for a day. We are fortunate to have that ability, and were reminded tonight to take advantage of it whenever possible.

Here's to another awesome day tomorrow ♥.

Gearing Up!

I got out of work early and must've blacked out...
uhhhh..
Okay, so what really happened is that I got out of work a little early, and decided against my more rational judgment to make a quick stop at REI for a couple of things for the weekend.

Things that are wrong with that:
1. There is no such thing as a quick stop at REI.
2. Don't get me wrong, I love the REI co-op and wholly support its mission, but myyyyyylanta the inventory is heinously overpriced. THERE, I said it.
3. I dropped some decent dough and an hour of my time on what I told myself would be a quick stop.

Meh.
I got what I needed there and made a couple more pitstops before heading home. Rob stayed up later than usual doing final adjustments to the boat for the weekend, and we've voted on it being a low-key night. I have to stop in at work for a bit tomorrow before we head to East Fork Lake in the afternoon, so that's reall all we have to report from here for today.

IT'S THE WEEKEND!!!

Tunes & Blooms: The Finale

Today was one of those days at work; for the most part, everything on our plates usually runs smoothly. However, when there is a problem, it's usually a pretty big one, and today was no exception to that. I was challenged today.. really challenged to comprehend the breaking point that pushes some people to act so violently in an unprovoked situation. I now have an employee with a broken wrist because of the erratic outrage of a random person. It makes me furious to think about it, still.. but our employee is handling it better than I probably, and he's going to be okay. Right now, that's all that matters.

In other news, Rob and I both needed a bit of a breather, so we joined Mike & Becky at the last round of Tumes & Blooms at the zoo. We've only gone to one other one so far, but wanted to make it out for one last hoo-rah.

There of course were the tunes:

bluegrass @ tunes & blooms!
There were friends...
hi, friends!
love love love 'em.
... there were flowers...
beautiful!
.. and of course, there were friends and flowers!
goofball.
Oh! And there's a new baby at the zoo! We caught a tiny peek of little [by little, I mean 5'11" tall and 150 some lbs..] Nasha's head while we were there; she was in the giraffe den nestled up against a far wall, so no full shots today. I did however find a video of her from TWO days ago when she was born!

Yay, baby animals! (:
We wrapped up at T&B when our stomachs started growling, and made a getaway to Comet in Northside for dinner. Tofu quesadilla it was, and of course a selfie... because... well, because lumberjack hats and PBR. That's why.
duh. (:
I'm totally shameless about that hat. Yes, it's quite the furry head accessory, but we took the bike out tonight and I'll give ya one guess as to whose head wasn't cold on the trips to and from.. E|:)

Happy Thursday, blogbots!!

VB & MSC ♥

I have no idea where the day went, but I know I was focused mainly on volleyball tonight. Paul stepped in for Beth, who was out sick tonight [feel better SOON, Beth!!]. We snagged a win for the night, and picked up our league shirts.

woot! hahana beach spring '14 (:
It's unusual for us to head out after just two or three hours at Hahana, but this time around, we found ourselves hungrier than usual, so we bid farewell to Paul and made the short trip over to Main Street, where Rob met us just as the food was being delivered to the table. Nice timing ;)
good old msc
These two places are staple stops in our routine, and I expect plenty more nights spent at both.

Two more days til the weekend, friends. Make the rest of the week awesome!
